Last week the children set off on their school tours to various parts of the county. First Class and Second Class had a wonderful day at Trabolgan. The Junior and Senior Infants had great fun exploring Tír na Sí in Watergrasshill. Third Class and Fourth Class enjoyed lots of team-building  activities at West Cork Secret near Kilbrittain. Fifth Class had an action packed day at the Let’s Go Camp in the Nemo Rangers grounds while Miss Hawke’s Class and Miss Hegarty’s Class enjoyed tons of indoor fun at Chuckies.

Well done to all of the girls who took part in our annual history competition. First Prize went to Aideen Mullins and Clodagh Crowley. During assembly they were presented with the Moynihan Cup for History by Mrs. Sinéad Elliott. Amy O’Sullivan, Abbey Hickey, Clíona Marshall and Ola Kulesza also received lovely silver medals for their well researched projects. Many thanks to our former deputy principal, Mrs. Eileen Moynihan, who gifted the beautiful prizes to the school.

All classes put a lot of work into their projects on the member countries of the European Union and they were thrilled to hear that they have been awarded another Blue Star Flag for their efforts.

A special raffle took place in the school last week. The fantastic prizes included a hurley signed by the players of the Cork Senior Hurling Team and another hurley signed by the members of the Cork Ladies Senior Camogie Team.

We are very grateful to our wonderful parent volunteers Sharon Kiely, Clair Healy and Michelle Lowther who assisted with the raffle and several other events. They have been exceptionally generous with their time right throughout the year.

The senior classes and their teachers welcomed John from the Garda Canine Unit and his clever dog, Buddy, when they paid a visit to the school. We also welcomed Adam from the Irish Coast Guard Service who spoke about water safety and brought along two fine rescue vehicles for the children to examine.

Our Sixth Class pupils spent a lot of special days together before leaving primary school. The girls had an exhilirating time at the Oysterhaven outdoor adventure centre. The principal, Mrs. Griffin, organised a lovely barbeque for the class in the school garden. The girls’ Graduation Mass took place in the Halla on their final day at Scoil Maria Assumpta. It was such an emotional occasion for the children, their parents and their teachers.

We will miss our Sixth Class pupils very much and we would like to thank them for all of the care and kindness which they showed towards the little children in the junior classes during the year. We wish the girls every success in secondary school and every happiness in the years ahead.

Congratulations to the preschoolers who also had their graduation ceremony recently. They boys and girls staged a spectacular performance for their proud parents and grandparents in the Halla and they looked absolutely delightful in their red and blue caps and gowns.

The school closed for the holidays on June 27th 2018. Have a safe and sunny summer!
