We were delighted to be informed that Scoil Maria Assumpta has been awarded the Green Schools Flag for Water Conservation. Miss Shirley Burns and some of the members of the Green Schools Committee went to the Radisson Blu hotel in Little Island on May 3rd for the presentation ceremony.

This is our third Green Flag so we are really proud of the achievements of the young students in the  committee. Well done to everyone who made such great efforts to conserve water in the school over the course of the past year!

On May 9th Ciarán O’Sullivan visited the school to give free basketball coaching sessions to our senior pupils. The girls were very happy to be given the opportunity to improve their skills. We would also like to thank Ciarán for donating five nice new basketballs to the school.

We had another visitor on May 15th when Susan, a dental hygienist from St. Finbarr’s Hospital, came to see our Fourth Class pupils. Susan gave a very interesting talk on dental health and she brought along some great props for the girls to examine. Each child was given a gift of a lovely toothbrush and some helpful hints on dental hygiene to bring home. Thank you, Susan!

We have all been taking full advantage of the recent spell of sunny weather. The Senior Infants have been studying the theme of Summer in their Aistear lessons so they organised a ‘Teddy Bears Picnic’ in the garden last week. The children and the teddies had a wonderful time!
