Scoil Maria Assumpta

Our Fifth Class pupils had a fantastic time on their recent trip to Fota Wildlife Park. They were treated to a ‘behind the scenes’ view of what life is like for the animals. First, they were brought to the Giraffe House and then they got to meet the lions, the red pandas, the cheetahs and the rhinocerus. The girls also participated in a very interesting workshop on native Irish wildlife.

Well done to Clíona Marshall and Katie O’Leary who won this UCC sponsored trip to Fota for their classmates. It was a day to remember for everyone!

Last month children from First Class to Sixth Class took part in an inter-schools gala in the Mayfield Pool. We were highly impressed by the girls swimming ability and they returned to school with a very fine assortment of gold and silver medals. Scoil Maria Assumpta Abú!

We are currently working towards achieving an Active Schools Flag. Miss Ashley Lovett and her committee have organised a number of initiatives to help us reach our goal. On Music Mondays the children dance and move to music in the yard. On Fitness Fridays everyone spends the first five minutes of the day doing fitness stretches and exercises.

All classes are brought to the camogie pitch each day and encouraged to run or walk laps of the field. One lap is equivalent to one mile and we are counting up the laps until we reach Dublin!

The camogie team have commenced their practice sessions and the players are looking forward to taking part in the Sciath na Scol tournament this term.

The boys and girls in the Pre-school have been studying the topic of Space recently. The teachers were really impressed by the amount of interest their budding astronauts have shown in this topic. The new children who joined the Pre-school got a lovely ‘Céad Míle Fáilte’ when they arrived this month and they are settling in very nicely.
