On February 1st we celebrated St. Brigid’s Day and the traditional arrival of Springtime. The children heard about St. Brigid and her wonderful life and legacy. They enjoyed hearing about the legend of St. Brigid’s Cloak and they examined a variety of crosses made from rushes. The pre-schoolers welcomed the Spring season by planting lots of seeds and bulbs and getting in touch with the earth. The Senior Infants have also been learning lots about the emergence of new life in Spring.

Mrs. Barry and Miss O’Neill are very proud of their Fourth Class pupils who put so much effort into organising their cake sale which was held on February 2nd. They advertised the event by placing their pretty posters all around the school. The girls baked and decorated a wonderful selection of buns and cakes and arranged them very attractively for their young ‘customers’. The other children couldn’t wait to visit the classroom to spend their euros on the delicious treats.

We have been really enjoying our Friendship Month celebrations. Miss Moroney’s class are carrying out a  ‘Friendship Challenge’ during the month of February to see if they can become even more kind and friendly than they already are! The older pupils have planned a variety of fun activities for their little school-mates. Kind deeds were acknowledged at Assembly and Mrs. Roche’s girls gave us all regular reminders of ways in which we can be good friends to one another. We recently welcomed some new pupils to Scoil Maria Assumpta and we are making every effort to help them feel part of the school community.

Miss Moroney and Mrs. O’Sullivan were very pleased when Tara Phelan arrived from UCC to begin her work placement in Senior Infants. The teachers greatly appreciated the fantastic assistance they received last term from UCC student Avril Power and they are looking forward to working with Tara this term.
