All of our pupils have been studying music with Sorcha Walsh throughout the year. Children from First Class to Sixth Class have been learning to play the recorder and they have become familiar with reading music notation.

Scoil Maria Assumpta is participating in the Music Generation Programme and Oisín has taught some of the senior pupils how to play the saxophone, clarinet and oboe. Several girls are receiving after-school tuition in a variety of instruments including the cello, violin and flute.

The members of the school choir and all of our fantastic musicians came together on June 15th to stage a highly entertaining concert for their parents and grandparents. We were very impressed by the amount of progress the children have made in their music studies over the course of the year.

At the end of the concert it was time to bid a fond farewell to Sorcha who will be leaving the school this month to return to her native County Galway. We would like to thank her most sincerely for her many years of dedicated service as music teacher in Scoil Maria Assumpta and we wish her well in all of her future endeavours.

Soon it will be time to also bid farewell to our Sixth Class pupils. Their Graduation Mass will take place in the Halla on Wednesday June 21st.

It will, no doubt, be an emotional occasion for the girls, their parents and their teachers. Ms. Hilary Holland and the entire staff are so proud of this kind, generous, helpful, enthusiastic, talented and fun-loving  group of students and we wish them every success and happiness in the years ahead. Go n-éirí go geal libh i gcónaí, a chailíní!
