March 15th was a special day for our Ms. Mc Adoo’s Second Class as they went to the church to make their First Confession with the boys from Morning Star School. The children began by singing ‘I’m Sorry God’ and then they were asked to consider the times they did not show love to God and to others. After they had recited the ‘Prayer Before Confession’ and ‘The Confiteor’ they were invited onto the altar to speak with Father Murphy or Father Nugent. When all of the girls and boys had returned to their seats they recited the ‘Act of Sorrow’ and the ‘Prayer After Confession’. The ceremony concluded with the final hymn, ‘The Way to Be’. The children and their families are now looking forward to the next big occasion which will be the First Holy Communion day in May.
As part of our Health Promoting Schools initiative our pupils and their parents have been invited to attend a series of ‘Get Fit With Your Kids’ sessions in the Halla. These classes will provide a fun and informal means of developing more active and healthy practices. Bean Uí Chonaill told us that her girls really enjoyed dancing along to some lively tunes with their parents last week. The annual Tráth na gCeist, which was held recently in the Halla, was great fun. The girls in First Class were also allowed to take part this year. Everyone had a nice time together and they learned a lot of interesting facts ‘as Gaeilge’.
We were so thrilled when Mrs. Fitzsimons announced that she would be having a pizza party for the entire school on March 16th. This party was held to celebrate the fact that all classes had returned their contributions from the sponsored walk and to thank our pupils who helped to raise such a large sum of money for Scoil Maria Assumpta. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir!
