The Ceremony of Light for our Sixth Class pupils took place on February 22nd. The girls had worked very hard to make sure the Halla was looking nice for the occasion. They decorated the stage with their beautiful ‘candle light’ artwork and assisted their teacher, Ms. Holland, with the lovely flower arrangements.
Mrs. O’Sullivan led the Sixth Class choir in singing Light of Christ and the scripture readings also reflected the theme of Light. Then came the special moment when each parent lit their daughter’s Baptismal candle and passed it on to their child as a symbolic gesture of passing on the Catholic faith to the next generation.
Fr. Murphy reminded the moms and dads of the importance of bringing their children to Mass each week. Our principal, Mrs. Fitzsimons, highlighted the need for parents and teachers to work hand in hand in order to pass on the faith to our children.
On Shrove Tuesday Mrs. Fitzsimons, Cathryn and Muireann got together in the Cookery Room and made pancakes for the entire school. We thoroughly enjoyed their scrumptious crepes and we were very impressed by our principal’s excellent pancake tossing skills!
On Ash Wednesday everyone went to the church to be blessed and to receive their ashes. The children have promised to give up some of their favourite treats for Lent and have also undertaken to carry out a variety of good deeds. We wish them well in reaching their personal goals.
Ms. McAdoo’s Second Class girls commenced the Maths for Fun programme last week. They loved playing the board and card games with their parents and they are looking forward to future sessions. We would like to thank all of the moms and dads who have volunteered to assist us with this worthwhile programme during the year. Go raibh míle maith agaibh!
