Catholic Schools Week was celebrated from January 29th to February 4th 2017. The theme for this year is: ‘Learning with Pope Francis to care for Our Common Home’. It highlights the urgent need to take care of Mother Earth. The children were brought to Mass in the parish church on February 3rd. Father Nugent told the congregation that Pope Francis has called on every human being living in the world to make changes in their lives to protect our planet. He also reminded us of the wonders of nature and the importance of letting nature work as God has intended.
Friday was also the feast of Saint Blaise, Bishop and Martyr, so the girls and their teachers had their throats blessed by Father Murphy and Father Nugent while they were in the church. We look forward to a very healthy Spring term at Scoil Maria Assumpta!
Our very dedicated ‘Water Conservationists’ in Fourth Class have been busy checking all areas of the building for water leaks. The girls on the Green Schools Committee have begun to collect rain water in buckets so that this can be used instead of tap water for cleaning jobs around the school.
Mrs. Barry’s pupils have just completed their Junior Achievement course with Siobhán. They enjoyed learning lots of interesting facts about ‘Our Nation’ and they really engaged with the lessons which had been prepared for them.
At assembly last week Mrs. Griffin encouraged the children to bring in their spare coins so that they can fill up our giant Mission Money Bottle and send it off to help children in the poorest parts of the world.
