Ms. Holland’s Sixth Class and Ms. McAdoo’s Second Class are taking part in the Junior Achievement programme this term. Aileen from Musgraves is working with Sixth Class and she has prepared some very interesting science lessons for the girls. Rosario from TYCO International is visiting Second Class each week to teach the children about the important roles played by the different workers in the community.
Miss Coughlan and the Junior Infants welcomed student teacher, Sarah O’Connor, to their classroom in January. Sarah comes all the way from California. She is delighted to have been given this opportunity to study early years education in Ireland and to learn more about her own cultural heritage. We also welcomed student teacher, Laura Bartley, from UCC. Laura has been a great help to Miss Hegarty in the Senior Infant classroom.
Well done to the Junior Infant girls and boys who were so brave when they received their vaccinations last week. The doctor and the nurse told Mrs. Fitzsimons that they were very impressed by how calm the children were throughout the whole procedure. The lovely lollipops which the nurse promised to the children certainly seem to have done the trick!
Ms. Holland’s Sixth Class visited Presentation Secondary School on January 25th for an Action Day. Our pupils took part in a variety of activities so that they might see what the transition to second level education will be like for them. They participated in a Home Economics class, a Science class, a Physical Education class and they learned to negotiate their way around the building. We would like to thank the principal, Ms. Nicola Barrett, and her staff for welcoming our pupils to the secondary school and for facilitating this visit.
On February 1st the children celebrated the feast of St. Brigid by listening to our ancient legends, by learning about the traditions associated with the Cross of St. Brigid and by using a variety of materials to replicate the woven patterns of the cross. St. Brigid’s Day traditionally herlalds the beginning of Spring and we cannot wait for all of the bulbs which the girls have planted around the school to bloom.
