On November 15th the Diocesan Religious Education Advisor, Julia Ryng, visited the school. The children were delighted to welcome Ms. Ryng to their classrooms. They were very eager to sing their songs, recite their prayers and tell their special guest everything they had learned about God. Each classroom had a lovely sacred space prepared and the children’s religious artwork was on display along the corridors.

Pupils from Junior Infants to Sixth Class have been calling to mind their deceased loved ones during the month of November. Beautiful Trees of Remembrance and Gardens of Remembrance have appeared throughout the school. Ms. Ryng was quite impressed by the children’s knowledge and understanding of the Grow in Love Programme.

The pupils in Mrs. Elliott’s Second Class have already begun preparing for their First Holy Communion. Father Murphy has been visiting Miss Holland’s Sixth Class regularly to help guide our senior students on their journey towards the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Bean Uí Chonaill’s First Class had a great time when they visited the swimming pool in Mayfield recently.

The girls were so excited when the instructor gave them arm bands and they all managed to swim right across the big pool. They cannot wait for their next session. Tús maith leath na hoibre!

During Science Week our Sixth Class pupils met with Gladys and Claire from the Junior Achievement Programme. Miss Holland and her class listened with interest to a talk on how pharmaceutical companies research and test to create new medicines. Then they took part in some experiments based on ‘trial and error’ using Lego Blocks. Gladys and Claire, who work for Janssen in little Island, also spoke about the job opportunities available to those who study science. No doubt our Sixth Class students will consider opting for science subjects when they move on to secondary school next year.

Fifth Class attended a Junior Achievement workshop on Chromotography in the library. The girls loved being presented with the challenge of finding the ‘prime suspect’ from the scientific evidence available to them.

Well done to our young ‘detectives’!

Mrs. Griffin’s pupils and their parents are also thoroughly enjoying their cookery classes with the muti-talented Caitríona Kingston. The girls were exceptionally proud of the delicious and wholesome lasagne they made in the Cookery Room last week.
