On Wednesday October 5th a Mass to mark the beginning of the academic year was held in the parish church. It was attended by the pupils of Scoil Maria Assumpta and the students of Presentation Secondary School. Mrs. Laura O’ Sullivan had taught our children several hymns which included, ‘Christ be our Light’, ‘Alleluia’, ‘A Mhuire Mháthair’ and ‘The Cloud’s Veil’. Taylor and Laura from Sixth Class did a fine job of leading everyone in singing the psalms while Evie, Tara, Caoimhe, Zoe, Muireann and Alix read clearly and reverently from the Scriptures during Mass. All of the girls joined together to sing the entrance hymn and the final hymn. The sweet voices of our young pupils blended very nicely with the wonderfully melodious voices of the singers in the secondary school choir.
Ellie Boyle from Second Class got a big ‘Bualadh Bos’ at Assembly on Tuesday morning because she has kindly volunteered to donate her hair to the Rapunzel Foundation. Ellie will have fourteen inches cut off her long plaits and her hair will be donated to help make wigs for adults or children with alopecia. Ellie has already raised over four hundred euro for the foundation and contributions are still arriving in for her collection box. Maith thú, Ellie!
Our Principal, Mrs. Fitzsimons, was very pleased with the response to her recent appeal for Irish Daily Mail coupons. She announced that we now have enough coupons collected in order to receive a professional weather station for the school. We are really looking forward to the arrival of the postman and we cannot wait to begin making our own weather forecasts!
