The Maria Assumpta Pre-school Graduation Ceremony took place in the Halla on June 3rd. All of the girls and boys wore lovely blue and red caps and gowns for the occasion. The children performed songs from ‘Annie’ and ‘Frozen’, with great enthusiasm, for the large audience. Then it was time for the little graduates of the Class of 2016 to come forward to be presented with their certificates. Afterwards, refreshments were served and the children posed for lots of photographs with their proud parents.

Fourth Class thoroughly enjoyed their recent trip to Fitzgerald’s Park. The girls visited the City Museum where they viewed some of the Mitchell and Kenyon old movies of Cork in the 1900s. They got to experience the sensation of crawling through a trench in World War I and they also examined the museum’s 1916 Rising exhibit. Later, the girls were given time to explore the playground. We would like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to Mrs. Laura O’Sullivan who bought ice-cream for everyone in her class!

On June 14th a special concert was held to showcase the wonderful progress that the children have been making throughout the year in their music lessons. Each class performed a choral piece and accompanied their singing with a wide range of musical instruments. Our wonderful children’s choir and orchestra also performed at the concert. We are very grateful to Sorcha Walsh, our talented musical director, who continues to tutor our pupils each week with such dedication.

Mrs. Mary Barry was pleased to inform us that Scoil Maria Assumpta has just been awarded the Health Promoting School White Flag. This year the school community focused on the theme of ‘Wellbeing’. Miss Sinéad Hartnett has provided us all with fantastic inspiration, guidance and support in developing our spiritual, physical, social and emotional health and wellbeing.

We were so thrilled to hear that Sophie Thompson from Fifth Class has been selected to play in the Respect Exhibition Go Games during the All Ireland Football Final in Croke Park on September 18th 2016.

Sophie was nominated for this honour due to her exceptional team spirit as well as her excellent football skills. Maith thú, Sophie!
