On November 14th the girls in the senior classes were treated to some great entertainment when members of the Ballyphehane Pipe Band visited the school. Our pupils really enjoyed listening to the uplifting sounds of the pipes and drums. They were encouraged to consider joining their local band where new friends can be made and competitions and parades can be entered in various parts of the country.

Our principal, Mrs Fitzsimons, would like to convey her sincere gratitude to everyone who supported our sponsored walk so generously. We were thrilled with the amazing response to this appeal. To date, 3,270 euro has been raised. This money will be used to improve the IT resources in the school. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir.

Miss Hegarty’s Fourth Class are thoroughly enjoying their sports sessions with the Community Games officers who have been visiting us. They really appreciated the training they received from Dave who is a member of the FAI. The girls couldn’t wait to try out all the fantastic new soccer skills which he taught them. Fourth Class have also commenced their swimming lessons in the Mayfield pool along with Miss Holland’s Second Class. They had great fun learning all about buoyancy last week.

Molly, our student teacher, recently introduced the Junior Infant children to her mom and dad who had come all the way from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to see her. Bean Uí Chonaill and the girls made Mr. and Mrs. Gallagher feel so welcome on their surprise visit to Scoil Maria Assumpta.

On November 21st the entire school community celebrated Presentation Day. We were delighted to be joined by the sisters from the Ballyphehane convent at our special prayer service in the Halla. Sixth Class narrated stories and produced freeze frames depicting scenes from the life of Nano Nagle who cared so deeply for the poor children of Cork in the worst of times. We are indebted to the Presentation sisters who have provided us with such a fine school and who have worked so diligently to continue the legacy of their inspirational foundress, Venerable Nano Nagle.
